The collection of Old Master drawings from the Genoese school in the Department of Prints and Drawings at the Statens Museum for Kunst in Copenhagen have lived an obscure life in the collection's Solander boxes. Few of them have ever been published and only one has been shown to the public within living memory.
This reflects the general disregard for Genoese drawing although Genoa was one of the most vibrant art centres in Italy during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. In this period Genoese draughtsmanship emerged with a distinct regional quality rivalled only by Naples and Bologna.
